A STRANGE CREATURE FROM 1983
Born as a glyph.
Raised by the Macintosh underground.
The original dog icon was drawn for the Cairo font in 1983. It later evolved into a bovine-looking demo graphic used to explain page orientation, mirroring and scaling. Eventually, the creature received a name: Clarus the Dogcow.

The redesigned animal looks oddly bovine. The argument ends with the only possible answer: it is both.
